One of the greatest movies ever made gave rise to another masterpiece in the late eighties, some of the greatest credit cards of our time: The Gone With The Wind collector series MasterCard
About the Gone With The Wind credit card
The Citizens and Southern National Bank of Atlanta issued this limited edition series. The set of cards was created to “preserve the memory of a classic” and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film.
Gone With The Wind was first released on December 15, 1939. It premiered at the Loew’s Grand Theatre in Atlanta. An estimated one million people crowded the streets to get a glimpse of the celebrities who were attending the opening. In fact, the premiere was such an event that Georgia’s governor declared the day a statewide holiday.
50th anniversary of Gone With The Wind
On December 15, 1989, another major event took place. The 50th anniversary celebration of the movie brought with it an unveiling of a series of commemorative credit cards depicting scenes from the film.
The commemorative series set consists of four cards. Every two years, cardholders received a newly-designed card with a completely different scene.
Card One
Issued from December 1, 1989 thru November 30, 1991. The first card depicts a commemorative symbol to mark the 50th anniversary of the film.
Card Two
Issued from December 1, 1991 thru November 30, 1993. This card depicts Scarlett and her beloved Tara.
Card Three
Issued from December 1, 1993 thru November 30, 1995. Clark Gable, who portrays Rhett, is featured on this card.
Card Four
Issued from December 1, 1995 thru November 30, 1997. The silhouettes of Scarlett and Rhett grace the card.
A form that depicted all four cards in color was needed to apply – and it was very popular, with some serious credit card collectors acquiring multiple credit applications to complement each card acquired.
